Growing up in the early days of the Internet, Green Mountain IT Solutions founder Tim West could often be found breaking the family computer by carelessly installing whatever software seemed interesting. As he grew older, Tim began expanding his IT knowledge, hacking one of the first iPods to run an alternative operating system and later jailbreaking the first iPod touch device.
Tim’s technology journey took a detour when he explored his love for history and the outdoors, briefly starting down the path toward becoming a National Park ranger. He quickly found working for the government wasn’t for him! Tim soon found himself immersed in technology again after landing a job at a local IT company in Vermont. It didn’t take long for Tim to realize his knack for IT. He quicky got up to speed on the latest technologies, later studying at Vermont Technical College to formalize his IT knowledge.
Always possessing an entrepreneurial spirit (once selling cheese quesadillas from his college dorm room), Tim decided to strike out on his own and establish Green Mountain IT Solutions in 2018. What started as a one-man operation in a corner of Tim’s Burlington apartment quickly grew beyond expectations. It was baptism by fire (literally) when one of the company’s first clients experienced a large fire at their facility that required rebuilding their entire IT infrastructure at a temporary site in just a few days! With a little resourcefulness and a lot of help from friends and advisors, Tim was able to rise to the occasion and get the job done, and Green Mountain IT Solutions was up and running.
Since then, GMITS has experienced consistent growth and expanded its footprint in the local IT community. In 2021, the company celebrated a milestone by moving to its first office in downtown Burlington and welcoming its first employees. Since then, GMITS has continued to expand, experiencing its largest growth year yet in 2023 and successfully delivering on several major projects for new clients. In 2024, GMITS welcomed more team members and relocated to Williston.
Looking ahead, Green Mountain IT Solutions is poised for continued success. Current plans include continued client expansion and new efforts to add cutting-edge cybersecurity services.
