Are you an experienced IT pro who’s ready to move beyond the helpdesk? Looking for a role where you are trusted with projects like server builds, network installations, migrations, and more?
Green Mountain IT Solutions is seeking an IT Technical Lead to join our growing team. Based in Williston, Vermont, we are an established Managed Service Provider serving businesses throughout Chittenden County and beyond. We provide cutting-edge technology, while still delivering fast, personal service to our fellow members of the Vermont small business community. We believe in work-life balance and treating our employees with fairness and respect. This is an excellent opportunity for an IT professional who wants to accelerate their career and grow with our company. This position offers independence, responsibility, and room for growth. You will be an integral part of a small team at a local, independent company, not just another face in the crowd.
The IT Technical Lead is a blended role, consisting of both technical project work, as well as Level 2 technical support. The role focuses on client projects, while also providing backup, overflow, and escalation coverage for client support and ticketing.
What You’ll Do • Manage and execute client projects independently: handle jobs like server installations, network upgrades, and Microsoft 365 migrations. Project execution includes both technical work, as well as project logistics like planning and communication. You will also coordinate with other team members and outside contractors to assist with projects. • Own new client technical onboarding: assess new client environments, deploy our stack, configure systems to our standards, and identify gaps and risks. • Assist with solutions design: help design architectures and configurations for our clients. • Provide ticketing coverage: handle client support requests when required (backup/overflow), as well as serve as an escalation point for other team members. • Maintain documentation: including writing and updating process checklists and help pages. • Make on-site visits to client sites as needed for projects, escalations, and support. • Identify opportunities for automation and improvement in our workflows and tech stack, then work to implement your ideas. • Occasionally cover ticket dispatch/triage when needed to keep the team running smoothly.
Compensation • $27 - $35/hr, depending on experience • Health insurance (after introductory period) • Paid holidays plus vacation/sick time • Mileage and parking reimbursement
Schedule • Full-time; 8:30AM – 5PM Monday – Friday. No weekends. • Rotating emergency on-call. On-call is emergency only; calls are very infrequent and responses are generously compensated. • This is an in-person position at our Williston office. There is a possibility for hybrid work in the future, but this is not primarily a remote position.
Requirements • At least 2-4 years of full-time IT experience, including hands-on project work (server builds, migrations, network installs, client onboarding). Work experience at a Managed Service Provider (MSP) is highly desirable. • Local Vermont resident able to commute to our Williston office • Reliable personal transportation and valid driver’s license • Able to pass drug and background checks
Skillset • Strong, proven experience with Windows Server, Active Directory, and virtualization technologies, such as Hyper-V • Advanced knowledge of Windows and MacOS desktop operating systems and applications, and computer hardware concepts and troubleshooting • Strong familiarity with Microsoft 365 environments, including Entra, Exchange, SharePoint, and Intune. Google Workspace experience is preferred but not required. • Solid understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and firewall configuration. Familiarity with protocols such as DNS and DHCP. Experience configuring switches, firewalls, and wireless access points. • Experience using ticketing systems, time-tracking software, and professional services automation (PSA) tools. • Able to safely use basic hand tools and physically install equipment, which may include lifting equipment into racks, installing cables behind or under desks, or occasionally using a small ladder.
Profile • Reliability and punctuality are essential. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including email and phone. • Organized and detail-oriented. • Thrives working independently and troubleshooting in unfamiliar environments • A self-starter; comfortable taking ownership of projects and completing them with minimal oversight. • Enjoys learning quickly and self-educating using available resources. • Values being a member of a small team and working for a local, independent company.
