What Is This?

Microsoft recently announced the New Commerce Experience (NCE), a change to licensing and pricing for Microsoft 365 products.

You need to have Green Mountain IT Solutions take action to adjust your licenses (or take action yourself) to avoid possible issues and unnecessary spending on your 365 subscription.

What Is Changing?

1. You now need to choose an annual or monthly commitment to Microsoft 365 licenses.
2. With an annual commitmenti, you will still pay for 365 monthly, but you cannot cancel a license in the middle of your yearly term.
3. With a monthly commitment, you can cancel/remove licenses at any time, but will be charged a 20% higher price for all licenses.
4. Regardless of whether you choose the monthly or annual term, prices for certain Microsoft 365 plans will increase, including Microsoft 365 Business Basic (from $5 to $6 per user per month, annual commitment) and Microsoft 365 Business Premium (from $20 to $22).

What do I need to do?

For existing clients, wait for an email from Green Mountain IT Solutions with your custom reccomendation for how to get the best value from the NCE. If you are not currently a client, contact us at info@greenmtnit.com or 802-489-6948 for assistance with the NCE.

What is the Deadline?

You must take action before July 1, 2022. In many cases you will be able to save big by acting before March 1, 2022.

Who is making this change?

This change is being made by Microsoft, not Green Mountain IT Solutions or Microsoft Partners.

What does it mean to make an annual commitment?

• You will still pay monthly for your Microsoft 365 licenses.
• You must pay for the license for all 12 months of the annual term. You cannot cancel or remove a license during the term.
• So, if you have 10 Microsoft 365 licenses, starting on March 1, 2022, but one employee retires in May and you do not replace her, you must pay for all 10 licenses through February 28, 2023. If you hire someone new, you can use the old license for the new employee for the rest of the term.

Can I Mix and Match Monthly and Annual Licenses?

Yes. For example, if you have 10 annual licenses for full-time staff, you can then 2 monthly licenses (at a 20% higher price per month) for two interns who only need licenses for 3 months.

Can I Change License Types During an Annual Commitment?

You can upgrade license types to a higher level during the term, such as from Business Basic to Business Standard. You cannot downgrade licenses to a lower level during the term.
